I know how hard it can be to muster up the courage to dress the way you want. I’ve been there and even today I sometimes feel a bit shy about what I want to wear vs. how society wants me to dress. Just last week I wrote about fashion, confidence and my own fashion journey and I promised all of you a mini series of related guests posts!
Today’s guest blogger is Lizzie from www.HelloLizzieBee.com.
Lizzie is a fashion blogger from the UK and an expert in all things Gyaru. She has been wearing J-fashion for years and is widely known, respected and loved for her knowledge, style and bubbly personality. You should definitely check out her blog if you want to read more about Gyaru styles!
How to Have Confidence When Wearing Alternative Fashion
You’ve got to have confidence when wearing an alternative fashion, especially Japanese fashion styles like gyaru. With our flashy clothes and over-the-top makeup, we can stick out like a sore thumb from the crowd (so you can imagine what it’s like when a large group of us come together for a gyaru meet).
I didn’t have a lot of confidence when I was younger; all I wanted was to just fit in and blend into the crowd, and it wasn’t until I discovered gyaru that I realised how much I yearned to be outside of ‘the norm’. It took years to grow my thick skin, and below are a few tips and tricks I learnt along the way!
1. Practise wearing alternative fashion at home or with friends (if you’re not confident enough yet)
Wear alternative fashion in the comfort of your home first and amongst friends before venturing out into the big bad world. It took me some time to get used to wearing MA*RS clothes outside, so I slowly built up my confidence by wearing them at home (and taking lots of photos tehe). The next stage was to wear it for a gyaru meet and then finally be able to wear it when I’m on my own.
2. Wear the clothes that make you feel amazing
This is kind of an obvious tip but only wear the things that make you feel amazing. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing over-the-knee socks then don’t do it. Fashion is a form of self-expression and although there might be rules to some alternative fashions, remember you are here to enjoy yourself and not to fit into strict guidelines.
3. Remember that you are a badass b*tch
You are ROYALTY, so ignore the haters and ignorant fools who don’t know a thing about fashion and rock your stuff! The more you realise your inner power, the easier it becomes to wear the clothes you love. Have you seen supermodels walk? They look like they own the runway, and you run the runway of LIFE. You got this!
Hope that helps!
